What We Do
SmartGD&T™ Training and Consulting offers training for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) related to the ASME Y14.5 standards that can be provided in both public and private corporate settings. Training courses range from Beginning through Advanced and can also be customized to meet unique corporate needs. The building blocks are: concepts, tools, rules, and processes. The focus is on processes: feature function “encoding” and tolerance stack-up analysis, Feature Control Frame “decoding” for manufacturing inspection and assembly process management.
Each participant receives a proprietary course manual with extensive text and graphic material, and classroom exercises. In addition, each student receives a copy of the SmartGD&T Pocket Guide. The trainer uses PowerPoint presentations to introduce concepts, physical 3D models to demonstrate them, and a white board to amplify explanations. In addition, custom materials can be prepared based on client drawings and incorporated into work group discussions. Finally, hands-on involvement is provided through group and individual exercises, as well as work with 3D training models. Active participation and cross-training are encouraged throughout, in keeping with the concept that “the best way to learn anything is to teach it to someone else”.
Our Mission
Our mission at SmartGD&T Training and Consulting is to equip engineers with skills that enable them to communicate confidently and to work productively. SmartGD&T™ builds upon the ASME 14.5 standards and adds some additional rules and processes that enable users to employ a logical algorithm to suitably encode and decode feature control frames in a completely unambiguous manner. This methodology enables Design Engineers to ensure that what they are encoding on drawings is functionally correct, and it also ensures that the people who are downstream of those created drawing (ie, Manufacturing Engineers, Inspectors, etc) are effectively able to decode the requirements specified on the drawing. Regardless of your industry, position, or experience, our training programs build the skills you need to solve complex manufacturing issues. We strive to shorten the learning curve by giving engineers the confidence and competence to speak GD&T fluently so they can produce more perfect parts.
